I'm trying to install qmail while still using /bin/mail for my mail delivery. I know the SMTP stuff has all been set up properly based on being able to telnet port 25 successfully and so on, and I can send outgoing mail perfectly well. However, I'm pretty sure binmail isn't being called properly because it creates the following message in my logs when I try to send myself a message:

qmail: 997742332.578694 delivery 79: deferral: Cannot_give_-f_and_people_to_send_to./

My /var/qmail/rc script currently says:
'|preline -f /bin/mail -d "$USER"'

which is actually one parameter shorter than the recommended ones, so I'm hoping it doesn't mean they're all wrong.

What am I doing wrong here? Delivering mail to the actual inboxes seems to be the only problem qmail has.

The only difference I see is that, my /var/qmail/rc looks little different
