Need help with /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd/run
Hi...
I've been trying to set up a mail server using qmail-1.03 with support for LDAP. I have with me many howtos on qmail with each providing some unique info on setting up qmail...However, I'm confused and not able to decide which is the best way to set up qmail...although there are more than 6 different tutorials on the same subject, i have liked 2 major ways of setting up qmail,
1. qmailrocks tutorial - In qmailrocks tutorial, the last line of the file
/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd/run
and
/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-pop3d/run
uses a reference to something like....
/home/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw <some command> /bin/true
Now I do not want either vpopmail user or vchkpw group. I instead am using vmail:vmail as the preferred user:group combination so that I can use LDAP for authentication.
2. Now the second approach is to use djb's native qmail source and patch it one by one.
I have gone thru the above files
/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd/run
and
/var/qmail/supervise/qmail-pop3d/run
few months back and I remember that the contents of the above files were totally different from qmailrocks version.
I would highly appreciate if someone can assist me set up qmail with user 'vmail' and group 'vmail'. and share with me the best way to set up a qmail server.
If you would like more info, pls do let me know and i'll be glad to elaborate...
thanks

A good blow by blow install of qmail can be done with lwq pdf or html manuals.
This is for a straightforward no frills install of qmail. Using the existing unix authentication scheme
No clue about qmail & ldap !
Do you have ldap installed, configured and working ?
Try http://www.lifewithqmail.org/ldap/
Oh by the way I too till today have been using Mandrake Linux, but as of today have decided to move on to Deb and Slack for they have not changed (in their philosophy) as drastically as RedHat and Mandrake have. Will take a while to let go but am taking my first step.

Well I have a samba 3 PDC working prefectly with openldap authentication. I can successfully log on windows users to my samba domain. I also have a working qmail-ldap installation. However I am currently facing 2 problems....
1. Qmail isnt delivering messages meant for the local user. All my windows users are valid posix accounts with home directories. I want mails to be delivered to
/var/qmail/maildirs/<username> in Maildir format. However when i send a message to a local user, it remains stuck in the queue.
2. I want that whenever I add a new user, automatically his maildir directory is created inside /var/qmail/maildirs/. This is not happening right now. I have followed life with qmail-ldap......
I need some assistance here to have my qmail-server use ldap.
Thanx & regards,
