Troubles with adsl connection

Hi All guys. I really need help. Yesterday I was working with my gentoo linux and after a reboot I found out that my adsl connection wasn't working anymore. This happened after I updated the system with portage unsuccessfully (glibc gave me an error during the compilation). As I said, after the reboot, adsl-start starts the connection, but I can't even ping anything. If I ping something, I can see that the pp0 connection only receives bytes, whereas the lan connection (eth1 ethernet card) starts to upload bytes. When I stop the ping, the upload to the lan stops too. The adsl obviously doesn't work. Do someone have any idea on how to solve this problem and restore my dear internet connection? Now I'm writing you from links2 with the gentoo boot cd :-).
I found help also on the gentoo forum, and someone told me to check the gateway. It seems to be correct (192.168.0.1, which is the IP address of my machine).
Any suggestion?
Thanks.

have you tried the obvious: reconfigured the connection from scratch (factory reboot the modem - restore defaults on your machine - and redo the whole connection from the beginning)?

Tried everything. Now I solved deleting net.eth0 and net.eth1 and redownloaded them. Now works good. Thanks.

yup - good old "++ redo from start ++" works better than the old "reboot with sledge-hammer"
