hey,
i installed the modem driver for sm56 modem from the softmodems section
from the motorola site.apter installing the driver.
i see that /dev/ttyS1 is a link to sm56 which is also a device file
now(post installation)
when i try to connect by using "activate" using the config tool.
red hat network configurator "cannot activate network device ppp0"
"/sbin/ifup :config for ppp0 not found
usage: ifup < device name > "
i checked the wvdial file which is empty too.
what should i do?
thanks,
dj
hey,
i removerd ppp1 as you had asked me to and
on typing lspci,i get->
00:06.0 Communication controller: Analog Devices SM56 PCI modem
i found this in in the system log->
Sep 19 00:16:26 localhost insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/char/sm56.o: insmod char-major-24 failed
Sep 21 19:56:29 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-188
also,at boot i found an interesting message which went like->
finding module dependencies: idepmod : *** unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/kernel/drivers/char/sm56.o
so,i am guessing the object file is not working.so what do i do?
also, could you tell me what causes error 1 in the "make" command...
thank you,
dhananjay
