I installed a copy of Kubuntu on my desktop at work yesterday & I was able to connect to the Internet just fine then but today when I came in I can not get an IP address, from what I can tell.
Here is what I got as a result. Does that mean that this is fixed permanently or will it still be an issue?
Code:
dhclient eth0
Internet Systems Consortium DHCP Client V3.1.2
Copyright 2004-2008 Internet Systems Consortium.

For info, please visit http://www.isc.org/sw/dhcp/
can't create /var/lib/dhcp3/dhclient.leases: Permission denied
SIOCSIFADDR: Permission denied
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Permission denied
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Permission denied
Open a socket for LPF: Operation not permitted
I hope that because it didn't say "Permission denied" several times that fixed this issue.
Code:
sudo dhclient eth0
[sudo] password for jcrown:

Yes I just was wondering if it is likely to keep the issue from happening again. I had a different issue with a sound card where I had to do several steps every time I booted to get sound until I found some directions to permanently resolve it.
Actually it should not happen. Because "dhclient" executes by Network Manager, when it brings interface "up"
May be it just failed to get IP addresses, how knows.
If it happen again, just execute "sudo dhclient eth0", or write here, may be someone who like ubuntu|kubuntu will explain to you.
Well I was just forced to reboot it & it was still working so hopefully it is totally resolved. Thanks for the help that made things much easier to work.
