Telnet


Hello i just installed linux red hat 9 and i am having problems using telnet. I keep getting a connection refused, can anyone help me out on how to start the service?

rh9 uses ssh, not telnet

download putty

install it and search this site for information about enabling it, which is never advised, as telent is bad. mmmmmmmmmkay.

i did install it already, i just can't get it to start. neither can i use ftp. i just want to practice on how to do it.

many posts on this site will tell you to edit /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and change "disable = yes" to the obvious.

Use:
ntsysv

or:
chkconfig telnet on
chkconfig vsftpd on

If you want it on in more than one runlevel:
chkconfig -level 345 telnet on
chkconfig -level 345 vsftpd on

thanks i got telnet to work by editing the xinetd.d file.

but the ftp still doesn't work, any ideas?
