synergy not working

the server is slamd64, when i run the following script

section: screens
section: links
left = all
right= allix
bash-3.1$ synergys -f --config synergy.conf

NOTE: synergys.cpp,500: started server

and on the freebsd client

synergyc -f allix

it does not connect

have i done something wrong?
