what is your network set up, is it a router, hub or crossover cable? Is it just your linux machine that is connecting to the internet on win98?
All u should need to do is statically assign you win98 ip addy as ur dns and gateway server in ur linux machine. If it was all working fine before then what changes have u made to win98 have u recently installed a new firewall or altered the firewall settings in which cae u may need to add ur linux ip addy as a trusted addy or turn the firewall setting down to allow linux to connect.

Can you ping an internet IP like 216.239.39.99 (google.com) ?
If yes, then it is a DNS issue. In /etc/resolv.conf, replace the internal IP with your ISPs DNS IPs.

Still doesn't work, post the contents of /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0
This is the configuration file for your NIC.
