sshd & proftpd refuses remote connection
I have got my sshd working when i'm logged inside my home network. When i'm elsewhere, the connection acuses "Host Unknown". In /etc/hosts.allow i wrote "sshd : ALL" so it would accept all IP's connecting to the machine.
But outside my home network it doesn't work.
Also, i was trying to setup PROFTPD to serve ftp, but when i connect, inside or outside my network, i see my served folders, but can't touch them because the connection always time's out.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Tks.

Are you using a NAT router to connect to the internet? If so, you'll need to port forward the appropriate ports to your local machines.

Are you running a firewall on the machine? Are there any rules that would affect 22 (sshd), 21(ftpd control), 20 (ftpd data)?
iptables -nL
You can use tcpdump on the server to verify that requests are arriving from the router and your local network, and if data is being returned.

Make and model of router? Did you reboot the router after setting up the port forward? Have you tried a reset to factory defaults and reconfigure it again (has cured unexplainable problems before)? What does a Shields UP common ports scan on http://www.grc.com/ show for ports 20, 21, and 22?
