Try shutting down both boxes, then rebooting RedHat. Once it's up and running, start the w2k box. Try to access the files once windows is loaded.
(apologies if you know this) Windows machines always look for the master browser on the network, it's generally the first one that boots (unless explicitly told not to become the MB). If the MB goes down, another machine becomes the MB. The MB holds a record of all other machines (and where they are).
The machine running Samba uses this feature (been a while since I used it, so might be wrong) and needs (I think) to be the master browser for it to work properly.
So when your red hat box was reinstalled, the server became the master browser and samba threw a tantrum.
Try it, and if it doesn't work try it the other way round (let win2k load first, then turn on Red Hat) - as I said, been a while.
