Unhappy Slow File Saving Problem

Can anyone help?

I have an old pc which I have set up as a web server which I use for test/development puposes. This machine is running on Linux and does the job that I want and it is operating the web server ok - it is also networked with my Windows XP machine, and a laptop.

I have recently hit a slight problem in that I have created a new directory on the Linux (via the Windows machine) and now when I try to resave a file into the new directory it is taking about 10 seconds, whereas if I resave a file in one of the other directories it saves instantly. The file saves instantly on the first save - it is only when I have changed it that the problem occurs! I am creating/saving the files in EditPlus v2 which I have never had any problems with.

Not being a Linux guru I am not sure where the problem lies. I have checked the permissions and they all look ok. I have tried creating a new directory directly on the Linux but I am having the same problem and it is beginning to drive me mad.

What have I missed?
