will this also work for me but I have a desktop pc running win xp pro w/ 2 nic cards?
and the other my linux box running mepis linux w/ 1 nic card.
In between I have a small mini hub made by netgear. Six ports on it . From left to right looking at the front goes like 1, 2,3,4,5,and 6 being the normal/uplink port. I have a total of 3 patch cables.
My dsl service is sbc yahoo dsl and is coming into a dsl modem made by speedstream. No combo dsl/router, just the dsl modem rj11 going in and 1 rj45 going out to avail nic card.
So Is this workable or no? Or just get a router and spend some money that I dont have at the moment?

Thanks for listening

Does the modem connect to the hub, if yes then connect it and connect the other machines directly to the hub.
then go to the properties of that connection and enable internet sharing
and u can specify that machine as your gateway and the DNS of your ISP as the DNS server on other machines and the internet will work
just got my di604 router hooked up and worked for about a couple of hours last night and now connection is now lost. I went ahead and got a router to get my problem fixed but now I think another problem started. Was surfing on both pc's at the same time but now no connecting. all my info was entered into the router just fine but I noticed that I had checked the box marked get dynamic ip from isp instead of pppoe from isp . Maybe thats whats going on maybe not. any help?
well the next day I got online and talked w/ d-link associate and make a long story short I went into the router w/ modem powered off, be in mind I have a nic cable plugged into the port 1 on the router, typed in 192.168.0.1 on any browser and got into the router interface , went under Lan and changed the IP to 192.168.0.2 or 10 and applied the settings and restarted the router. now I can apply power back to the modem to get internet connection started. Next, went into the Wan part of the router interface and entered pppoe and setup my Isp's info and applied and all set to go and rebooted the router one last time and also rebooted the windows xp desktop and now I am back in business. I can even surf faster on my linux box than my windows xp desktop. Go Figure! Linux is the bomb and cant wait to learn even more and help others too.
If you need help setting up you DI-604 router let me know.
