Setting up Fedora/ Windows Linksys WRT54G Network
I moved recently and had to order Cable as the ADSL was not available in that area. For two months, I was struggling to setup the Cable connection with my Fedora box and finally got it to work today. I'm not a linux/networking expert but decided to write this so someone may find it useful. Linux experts, please feel free to add your comments.
Cable Modem -> Linksys Router -> Windows/Linux Wireless Laptop.
I managed to get my Windows and Laptop working in no time.
Linksys local IP address is 192.168.1.1 and DHCP enabled and starting IP address is 192.168.1.100.
I made the mistake of enabling DHCP in linux but after reading some posts disabled DHCP.
vi /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=192.168.1.101
USERCTL=yes
PEERDNS=no
Some useful commands
/sbin/service network restart
/etc/dhcpcd.conf
chkconfig dhcpd off (on) ( To remove/add to startup folder?)
service dhcpd start (stop/restart)
system-config-security (Firewall)
in webbrowser open location 192.168.1.1(user/password -> IP web page)
command prompt(? bash shell?)run system-config-security-network
change default gateway 192.168.1.1
copy the DNS 1 & 2 from the linksys ip status webpage to the netwok configuration dns page.
