Having just installed Linux Red Hat Fedora 2, one of our users now wants to be able to access the file server from home. We run a combi of WinXp and 98 clients, accessing the server (using Samba).
The home worker is running WINXP on his Dell laptop and has his own wireless network at home. He uses this laptop to connect to the LAN when he is at the office.
We use BT Broadband to access the web and a Netgear Router. The Router provides the IP addresses to clients as they log on - the Server and the Router's ip addresses are fixed.
To save installing a new NIC/Hub/Router etc., etc., I would like the user to be able to access the server via the Internet. I gather IPSEC is the way to go. However, having read the manual I am completely lost. Could someone please direct me to the idiot's guide on how to set up a VPN using IPSEC in Fedora (tunnel mode I think).
Anyway, from what I've read about it(Virtual Private Network, wtf?), it sounds overly complicated for what your user is asking for. Why not just set up sftp?
