Hood take me but I'm beginning to think Windows might be better than Linux. Anyway, I can connect & share my dual-boot PC with no problems under WinXPPro using wired or wireless. (I've another thread going trying to get the wireless-n usb adapter to work.) Two questions so I can get the wired shares to work.
I want to copy beaucoup files from the Win7 PC to the dual-boot PC. When booting into XP, no problems. When booting into Ubuntu 10.04, nothing. I can see the Win7 PC but can't access it. My two questions then are these.
First, is there some switch to enable fire & drive sharing under Lynx as there is under WinXP / 7? Second, how does one set the IPv4 address? Under WinXP it's one address and under Lynx it's another.
Thank you.
Oh, once this puppy is working, it goes to my daughter who wants to learn Ubuntu & Linux.
Are you talking about Linux, or the linux based web browser "Lynx"?
Your post is somewhat confusing..
Ubuntu settings:
If what you want is, to get a file share enabled on Linux, well, that is Samba setup, and it can be solved (at least in Gnome) by starting your file browser.
Just right-click on the folder you want to share, and select "Sharing options".
The IP address can be configured in your network settings, accessible by right-clicking on the Network manager in the toolbar, and choosing "Edit Connections".
If you are talking about command-line/server setup, then you must supply some more information about your version of Linux, etc.
I would not even dare to propose any solution about samba file sharing in Lucid, since my whole samba domain went down the drain after upgrading to Lucid (the devil's choice)..
I'm now on NFS, and it't working just fine, most of the time.
[Edit:] But of course, It does not solve your problem, NFS does not work well with Windows..
