Screwy DSL - Slackware

Everything worked perfectly with Slakware 7.0 and a custom compiled kernel.

I decided to upgrade the system to Slackware 8.0, kernel 2.4.

Eventually I got DSL up and running, but it was weird. It may stay up for a day, or 15 seconds. If the DSL went down, I had to reboot the DSL modem (Power reset) and rerun RP-PPPOE.

I tried a number of different network cards, nothing improved the DSL. I decided to reinstall Slackware 8.0, but with the 2.2 kernel. No improvement.

I was hoping for once to just use the precompiled Kernel, however, my previous install had PPP compiled into the kernel and no problems with the system. Any suggestions before I start trying trial and error ?

Perhaps some obscure setting for PPP or RP-PPPOE ?

Many Thanks
