SlackWare 10.0 DSL Router Help

Hello everyone...I have a newbie question that I need help with. I've installed Slackware 10.0 on a Dell Inspiron 2650. I have a Wireless DSL Router with a wireless PCMCIA card as well as regular ethernet port on the laptop. Let's start small...I know the wireless is gonna be hell.

As far as the ethernet wire that goes from my router to my laptop:
Some questions that Slack asks with netconfig are:
Static or DHCP (I chose static and put in the 192.168.?.? that my card reads in WinXP)
Gateway = router address?? (192.168.?.?)

How do I restart the network service so I can test these settings without restarting the computer??

Thanx Ya'll...Once I get DSL and NVIDIA working I'll be all set

Still no luck

How would I go about setting up the DSL connection? I've run Netconfig and set up the static IP address of the Eth0 card, the Gateway (which is the router's address) and the Nameserver (DNS). Yet it still can't find websites. I've compared the settings from WinXP and all looks good yet no resolution.

I would really appreciate some help...

Also how do I chose a different Gui...startx only brings up GNOME (Which I know is the best) but I've tried Kstart and it just says can't connect to X Server.

Peace out Ya'll...

P.S.: IF anyone can name a distro that works on an Dell Inspiron 2650 with easy DSL setup (perhaps graphical) I would really appreciate the advice. For now Slack is clean and fast.

Well, Mandrake I hooked up to a LAN with no trouble at all. Practically hot-synched in.
It's kind of bloated, but it should work well. As for the network config, you'll want DHCP, not Static. This way, it'll pull the address of the DNS from the router.

Code:
> ls /etc/X11/xinit
#This will list the different window managers scripts
>ln -s /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.WINDOW_MANAGER_YOU_WANT ~/.xinitrc
#restarting network I think uses the scripts
>/etc/rc.d/rc.inet1
>/etc/rc.d/rc.inet2
>/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd
I normally have very little luck with the scripts(worked once or twice) so I do it manually with
Code:
ifconfig ethN up
iwconfig ethN key IF_THERES_AN_ACCESS_KEY
ifconfig ethN MACHINE_IP
route add default gw GATEWAY_IP ethN
