Hello
I am having some problems with my network. The problems are annoying rather than terminal, but slowing down my research project which I HAVE to finish soon (non PC related, just files and WP).
Basically, I have some documents on my RH7 desktop, which I access from my win98 laptop, mainly so I can edit them at work etc. I can access any document from the Samba shares (using MS Word 2k)once with no problem. If I try to access a second document (or close the first and reopen), the system hangs, and Wincrap explorer goes down taking the mouse etc with it. I then have to log off/on or reboot to get things back (hangs on shutdown too). All the files in my shares have mode 2777 set through SWAT. Interestingly if I try to copy the files to the Winshite desktop, the system hangs, with a message saying the network resource is not available, but if I copy them to My Documents or the Samba shared bit of the laptop disc, it doesn't. I have a feeling this is a file permissions type thing, but I don't have the time to figure it out.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Regards

Hi,

I'm by no means an expert, but I remember having to use the profile editor on my Win98 machine and putting the resulting profile on the Linux server.

The Windos profile editor allows you to set things like directories that can be accesssed etc.

Perhaps the profile doesn't allow certain access and Windos doesn't handle violations very well ??

Just a wild guess.

Regards,
