samba login scripts not running

Good morning/Afternoon all...

I'm having a problem with login scripts not running. I've got a samba PDC that functions perfectly for everything else. Snippets of my smb.conf:

[global]
logon script = logon.bat

[netlogon]
comment = Network Logon Service
path = /var/lib/samba/netlogon
guest ok = yes
writable = no
browseable = no

The client is a windows XP machine. The logon script contains a single command right now to map a network drive. I have confirmed that after logging in the drive is NOT mapped, however if I drop to a command window and do a \\servername\netlogon\logon.bat the file runs just fine and maps... so it doesn't appear to be permissions or an error in the script it's self. Thoughts?
