samba and My Documents

Hi All,

I have several Windows XP machines backing up nightly to my linux box. What I'd like to do is have the Windows machines "My Documents" folder living on the server. I guess like a a NFS across two linux boxes. The Windows user doesn't know that the My Documents folder is networked. Any ideas?

you could always try and make a Samba PDC and that way your XP roaming profiles would be stored on your Linux Box.

I have a heap of information on my website that you can check out with regards to making a Samba PDC.

I'm also in the middle of writing Samba PDC with NT policies on an XP machine, this will allow you to re-direct your My documents folder to your Home directory. (meaning that it wont look any different on your windows XP machines, but basically when you click on 'my documents' it'll take you to 'h:\' and thats your home directory share on your linux box, making it easier to backup and if you have any problems you can still delete your profile without loosing your "my documents" folder.)

If you're in XP, right click on "My Documents", choose properties, and in the first tab (Target), you can specify wherever you'd like your My Docs to be.
