Windows 8.1 x64
Linux Mint x64 Cinnamon
Samba 4.7.6
The Windows machine and the Linux machine can ping each other, both by (static) IP and by hostname.
Windows opens a credentials window for each of the Linux samba shares, but rejects any credentials I supply.
I have this in log.samba:
Code:
[2018/07/08 17:51:23.534753, 0] ../source4/smbd/server.c:448(binary_smbd_main)
samba version 4.7.6-Ubuntu started.

[2018/07/08 17:51:23.561679, 0] ../source4/smbd/server.c:600(binary_smbd_main)
At this time the 'samba' binary should only be used for either:
'server role = active directory domain controller' or to access the ntvfs file server with 'server services = +smb' or the rpc proxy with 'dcerpc endpoint servers = remote'
You should start smbd/nmbd/winbindd instead for domain member and standalone file server tasks
[2018/07/08 17:51:23.561859, 0] ../lib/util/become_daemon.c:111(exit_daemon)
STATUS=daemon failed to start: Samba detected misconfigured 'server role' and exited. Check logs for details, error code 22
I have a VPN on each machine, and a software firewall on each machine (and a Router firewall, and an ISP firewall) but I have the problems even with most of that (VPNs, software firewalls, router firewall) disabled.
I'd really appreciate any help.
