samba

its was working just fine earlier today. if i'm not mistaken, it was even working after i did the red hat updates. now, i can connect to it, but i can't log into it. i've recreated the password file, re-created the passwords, but no users can log into samba from my xp pro box (the only other one i have). i am using RH enterprise. any ideas/ thoughts? the one thing that sticks out in my head is the log on window says "localhost.localdomain" and i was thinking it should read "sambacomputername".

Can you log into samba from the linux box? smbclient \\\\localhost\\share. I've found that this gives me more descriptive error messages. Anything in the logs? Mine are in /var/log/samba.

Did you upgrade the xp box to sp2? doing so would enable some firewall rules that would break samba.

if you did, go into your connection manager and modify the firewall settings to make file sharing work again on your local network.
