Unhappy Router problem

Hey all, ive got my linux box networking all setup right (or so I thought I did) its got 2 nics, the machines can ping each other on the lan and the server is connected to the net, so the nics are working ok.

the problem is when I try to install pmfirewall for the routing services, it installs fine, but when I go to start it it will say Protocol not found a bunch of times... how can I fix this?

I have ipchains/tables installed and anything else ip like.

btw I have no idea about modifying the kernel so if it has anything to do with that please provide some more info

thanks in advance..
