restart network after adding NIC alias

Hey all,
Looking to add another alias to my NIC card (ifcfg-eth3:1 -- ifcfg-eth3:0 exists and works).

However, i now have more clients on this server than when i started, and I need to add this new alias. Is there a "non destructive" way to restart the network (as to recognize the new ifcfg-eth3:1 file) without killing all active connections, and web sessions?

Will doing a "service network restart" kill all web sessions, ftp, ssh, etc??

Thanks all!!
