remote X clients

I want to run a remote X client and have it display on my local linux box. I'm currently able to log into the remote computer, set the DISPLAY variable, and then execute the client program. All that works fine. I just need to know how to automate the process. I ultimately want an icon on my local desktop that when activated runs the remote client automatically. But all I really need for now is a command that when entered at the linux command prompt will perform the above actions automatically. The remote computer is running HPUX.

thanks,
xyz

How do you log in? The preferred secure method is ssh, which also does X forwarding for you. Depending on your ssh configuration, you may need specify "-X", but often it's enabled by default. If the client was, e.g., xclock, you'd say

Code:
ssh -X hpuxhost /usr/X11R6/bin/xclock
That's the easiest. You could also send over the DISPLAY and the X authentication cookie, essentially automating what you're doing by hand.

Good luck!
