Unhappy Relatively slow xfer speed on network (~900kB/s)...?

I have a 1ghz pIII with 512mgs ram and with suse 9.0 running. My nic is set for 100Mb/s Full duplex. I am using samba to transfer files between another linux machine (1.6Ghz laptop w/ suse 9.2). My transfer rate is only about 700-900 MB/s, this seems very slow to me. Oh, and I have a linksys wireless G router. Thx for the help.

What windows hardware/OS are you connecting to? Is your cable cat 5e? What samba version are you using? Is the cable plugged in tightly?

Tell me a story, and I'll tell you no lie.

I am connecting two linux boxes. One is a running a samba server version 3.0.9. The other is a laptop with 802.11g. Oh and the cable I am using is good quality and only about 4 feet away from the router. Thx for the reply.

Not clear. Are you using RJ-45 cat5e or wireless for this transfer? Wireless will suck no matter what you do, RJ-45 CAT 5e will be able to do 3000Kb/s if samba version are the same and if your hardware isn't crap.

Wireless has trouble going though walls and stuff. Do you have line of sight. My experience with wireless is not good, unreliable. I ran cat cables through my attic... the walls... outlets ... everything.. becuase I didn't want to use wireless.
