Redhat7.3 wont tell 2wire router it's name?
I have a 2 wire home DSL router that is giving my home network DNS and DHCP services. The win98se and winXP and MAC boxes all show up with their own names, but the RedHat 7.3 laptop only gets named "(unknown)"
The RedHat machine (an older thinkpad thus redhat 7.3) knows it's name "think" The name is set in the /etc/sysconfig/networking file and in the /etc/hosts file for loopback.
/etc/resolv.conf says:
nameserver 192.168.0.1
search homeportal.2wire.net
I am not using the broadband part of the router. (this has worked in the past.)
Where do I put the name of a machine so it can tell DNS what it's name is. "think" is getting it's address from the dhcp server in the dsl router (at least it's listed by the ip address 192.168.0.35 in both ifconfig and the router's setup page. And I tried changing the name in the router-it won't listen.
