Did you try this as root? Only root can (un)install packages.
Find out if you actually have Apache installed first. As root, try running the command "service httpd status". If it says "apache is stopped", or something like that, then you already have it installed. To start Apache, you just have to run the command "service httpd start" as root. If "service httpd status" says "httpd: no such service" (or something like that), then you don't have apache installed, or it's installed improperly.
To check for an Apache installation using the RedHat Package Manager, use the commands below:
- rpm -q apache for printing the current version of the apache package installed
- rpm -qi apache for printing detailed information on the currently installed apache package
- rpm -ql apache for listing all the files in the currently installed apache package.
