Apache and RedHat

Hello all,

Hope I am posting this in the right forum.

I initially setup my box with the RedHat distro and installed Apache from the RPM. Since that setup, Redhat has come out with one update to Apache but yet that version is now 4 versions behind. Mine is sitting at 1.23 and the current is 1.27.

I don't see anything out there on RedHat newer than the 1.23 I already have. So I am wondering if I should download the binaries from Apache.org and install it that way.

Anyone have any pointers when the RPM is already installed -- should I remove it first and then install from the compile? Any gotchas I should look for. Chrooting ... etc. Obviously, I will back up my files.

Thanks,

G

If opt to compile apache from source then back up all the htdocs or wherever else you have your htmls, uninstall the rpm and compile from source, if it seems like a science to you then you can get the rpms from http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...p?query=apache
BTW the versons are 1.3.23 and 1.3.27 (the latest stable 1.3.x apache), there you'll see apache-2.x.x it is a new generation of apache webservers, also make sure you don't clog your setup with un-needed packages from apache family - apache-perl, etc, so if RPM's are good for you you can get all the apache auxilarity packages once again from rpmfind, what else??? Ah yeah, to get the list of all apache-related packages on your system just run
rpm -qa|grep -i apache
