Though the solution for me was simple, it took quite a while to track down.

The problem was during my install of daemontools, I did not want to restart my server (don't like resetting my uptime :-p ), even though the instructions said I should. This caused the problem that 'svscanboot' was not running, though it would have been started after a reboot. Well, I saved my uptime and solved the problem with one simple command:

# svscanboot &

Now when I start and stop qmail I get:
# qmail start
Starting qmail
# qmail stop
Stopping qmail...
qmail-smtpd
qmail-send

Hope this helps others solve their problem :-)

running "# svscanboot &" I have solved the problem on qmail-send, thank you, but now, executing "# ps -aux|grep svscan", i have two svscanboot!

root 24420 0.0 0.0 61172 724 pts/3 S+ 01:12 0:00 grep svscan
root 29392 0.0 0.0 63852 1100 pts/3 S Dec13 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/svscanboot
root 29394 0.0 0.0 3808 380 pts/3 S Dec13 0:00 svscan /service
root 29416 0.0 0.0 10780 1088 ? Ss Dec13 0:00 /bin/sh /command/svscanboot
root 29418 0.0 0.0 3812 384 ? S Dec13 0:00 svscan /service

And i obtain this messages:
"... supervise: fatal: unable to acquire qmail-send/supervise/lock: temporary failure?" with a "# ps -aux|grep readproctitle"

Please help me!

Thank you mylilalien. Last 2 days I am looking for solution from different forum but don’t get the actual solution. Finally by using this, problem has been solved. Thanks again.
