problem with internet connection through an XP box?
G'day
Just installed Debian 3.0, however I am having a problem getting the Internet conneciton working.
I can ping IP addreses on the internet however not domain names...
e.g. I can ping 64.179.4.149 but not www.linuxquestions.org
I know its probably something simple. I have modifed /etc/network/interfaces for my LAN so I am presuming that it is something in there...
Thanks for your help.
Regards
Nathan
What I meant is that I have a Windows XP Pro desktop connected to the Internet with an 128k dual channel ISDN connection which is shared to allow the computers on my network to connect to the internet through. My laptop which is on the network which I just installed Debian, after some configuration is able to ping IP addresses but not domain names on the internet through the shared connection on the computer running Windows XP...
On all the windows computers on the network I can ping www.linuxquestions.org or any other webaddress but I cannot do the same on my laptop..., I can only ping the IP address...
OK... now another problem
After I have started the network using ifup, I then goto login and KDE hangs indefinately at initializing system services. I have googled my problem and it shows three results but no solutions.
Why would this be so?
Thanks for ya help
Nathan
