Problem mounting samba share

Hi

I have a problem mounting a samba share

My file server is running CentOS
Client 1: Fedora 15 - mounts properly
Client 2: Ubuntu 10.04 has problems mounting the share

I used this command to mount on my fedora box
sudo mount -t cifs //server/share /mount/point -o username=user,password=pass

When I try to do the same thing on my ubuntu box, I get the following error

wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //10.10.10.250/files,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

I already installed samba and samba-client
Anything special I need to do to mount this on my Ubuntu machine?

Thanks

Hi there,

I think it is because of the syntax.

Use:

Code:
sudo mount.cifs //server/share /mount/point -o username=user,password=pass
instead of

Code:
sudo mount -t cifs //server/share /mount/point -o username=user,password=pass

Have you checked the logs the error message is referring to? It might have some useful information.

See if there's anything added to dmesg after you execute the mount command and post it here if you are unable to figure it out and we'll have a look.

The person in this link says to install the smbfs package.
Some further use of google led me here and here.

Can you try T3RM1NVT0R's suggestion first?
Code:
sudo mount.cifs //server/share /mount/point -o username=user,password=pass
If that doesn't work, install cifs-utils, if it's not already installed, and try again with both your and T3RM1NVT0R's syntax.

If that still doesn't work, you can install smbfs and retry mounting, again with both syntaxes.

I haven't used samba a whole lot, so I'm not too sure if this makes a lot of sense, but these are the steps I would take.
