problem accessing network...

I'm using Slackware 9.0, I'm a user of a univercity domain and I can't access network because system does not recognize my network card:Intel(R) PRO/100 so I receive that my interface (eth0) is DOWN.
How shall I solve this problem;
And after that, how will I setup my domain;

Thank you

Does your university LAN require you to register your network card before you're allowed access? Here at UVA, each person is required to register their network device (which I think just registers the hardware MAC address of your ethernet card). Unless you're paranoid about them potentially sniffing all your online moves, registering should be safe.
