postfix sends to LAN [msexchange] but not internet

Postfix newbie...

I am trying to setup postfix via webmin on Mandrkae 9.1 to route smtp mail to the LAN and internet.

Emails are successfully sent to the LAN MS Exchange 5.5. server and delivered locally. To acheive this all we have done is put the IP address of the mail server in Webmins Postfix general setting called 'Send outgoing mail via host'

MSExchange is setup to allow routing from the IP of mandrake.

So what else do I ned to to get Postfix sending to the internet thru exchange?

PLease help and ask for more details if needed.

cheers

slipsy

Well I do not know the webmin module for postfix, however what you did is simply configuring a so called relay host. You should have rather used transport maps to archive what you are looking for.

What are you trying to archive in detail ?

We are not trying to archive.
The Mandrake box is using a web based content management system [CMS] which we require to send emails from . Hence, we wanna direct the outbound mail to exchange to deliver to users of the CMS. We dont want to receive mail, archive, only to send it.

Currently it will send to the LAN but not the internet through Microsoft Exchange despite telling exchange that we trust the IP of the Mandrake box to route mail.

I don't think there is much wrong really but I can't figure out what is needed to send to the internet via exchange.

Do we need samba runnig and fo the Mandrake box to join the NT domain? We are trying to avoid this.....

Or is there some authentication problem between postfix and NT?

I didnt understand your reply about using "transport maps to archive what you are lookig for".

Any more pointers aappreciated...
