Please walkthrough these Apache settings with me

I'm using the Apache configuration tool on Apache 7.3

ok

Main

server name : www.goldfish73.com
avaliable addresses: all avaliable addresses on port 80

Virtual Hosts
virtual host name: namebased
ip: (I put in the IP of the Linux machine running the server)

Name based virtual host
Host name: namebased.goldfish73.com

Aliases
goldfish73

So now after I configed everything I can't get to the site
through www.goldfish73.com or through the alias. However if I typed in the IP, it'll go through just fine
how can I fix this so that it resolves the url name instead of the IP

please do not refer me any documentation cuz I'm really new at these and I've spent time looking through a bunch a stuff that just seemed more confusing then this really is
so please just give a straightforward answer if u can

Thanks a bunch

well if www.goldfish73.com is not DNS registered it wont work.

If your on a cable connection and want to have a registered domain name iehttp://hanzerik.dyndns.org) go to www.dyndns.org its free.

thanks for the advice
so do the rest of the settings look right?

I'm setting up this web server internally for my company
so is there a way to do without registering a domain name?

thanks
