Peng on RH9: Stopped Before Connection

Hello,
Another question from my friend who has just installed redhat 9.
He needs to use AOL, or his family will make him boot his machine back into XP.
So, I found a driver for his Winmodem, and we installed Peng. The install went fine, and Peng dials the phone number, but that is where the fun stops. After about 30 seconds of talking to the modem on the other end, Peng gives up and hangs up the phone. No error messages are produced, the program just sits there. When I CTRL-C it, it tells me "Stopped Before Connection".

So, it would seem that authentication is failing or something. Has anyone run into this? I am pretty sure that we have the username and password set up correctly.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated!
