It might appear I'm being fussy now, but each time I reboot I have to click on the icon in the task bar to bring up the "network connections" dialog box - then click to "connect to hidden network" - the the drop-down list reveals my network ID - so I click to connect - the password details auto fill & the the little whirly symbol in the task bar whirls for around 30 seconds but fails - Next, I press the already blue WiFi button for around 30 seconds and after some further whirling hey presto all is fine.....till next reboot, then I have to go through said procedure all over again...........Sorry so long, I sure hope this made sense?!?!
No problem , happy to help.
What happens if you do not press the button at all?

This laptop I believe requires an HP Wireless manager
I have to admit that I suspect you are right.
Only yesterday my youngest son was busy wiping out all that HP bloat-ware on his own laptop - it was then by coincidence I noticed the HP Wireless Manager software as he was about to wipe out.....Needless to say I advised he leave that entry in place!!!

The Blue light that is meant to indicate connected stays lit but no connection is initiated.

Take a look at the instructions by JeremyB
Interesting: I managed to find the General tab in the Network Connections and the following page that has the box crossed for Auto Connect - I hit the save button while there, so will now shut-down and see if there is any improvement.......but not holding my breath.
Before I go - Thanks for your JeremyB link - amazing how simple minded folk can be.....Anyhow, I ran that command and it did show my router connection but no sign of Auto prefix.

Oh goodness I've gone and messed it up somehow - although it has the auto box ticked, no it would not auto connect. So I still have to go through the same procedure to make the WiFi appear to be connected and according to the task bar icon I'm connected.......however, all I get is: can't find the server page! = no data makes it though.

Hi...
If you uncheck the box again, does it work? Either way, it doesn't work as it should.
