Hey all I'm new to linux and I just installed redhat enterprise linux AS V4.0. I live in Canada and the ISP I use is Bell sympatico. I put the bell cd in the driver but seeing how the cd is ment for windows it won't load. I even tried to install a windows emulator to boot the setup.exe but no go. Also I am using a USB to modem to connect. That's the only option I have because I don't have an ethernet card on that pc. Is thier a guide out there that can tell me step by step how to do this or if someone is kind enough to explain it will make my night a lot easier. Thanks.
Edit: I am using the SpeedStream 6300 Series router.
the router you have is a 5 port ethernet router. whoever though network connectivity over USB was a good idea should be shot. use an ethernet cable to connect to the router and you should be online instantly.
I wish it was that easy but I don't have an ethernet card installed on that pc. I can only connect through usb. I had windows 98 installed on it before and the usb connection was working fine. I hear that usb connection on linux is more complicated. Anyone can help?
you've surely got a spare pci slot? $7 buys you a pci nic these days, and once you have one it is sinsanely simple, much much simpler that usb ever would be. Google shows very little useful information about the router under linux.
please note that it's more complicated because the developers of the box don't seem interested in making it work under linux. it's not linux's fault!
