I suggest that you set up a second "raw" print queue in CUPS that connects to your printer.
On the XP machines, install the Windows printer driver, so that it points to the "raw" queue. This causes the print file to be prepared on the XP machine and then sent to the printer as is.

Actually that was largely what I was hoping to do.
Can you give me a few instructions on setting that up in Samba? Or do I need to configure CUPS itself?
I'm on a VERY slow dialup, using someone elses phone line which I don't want to abuse, so please don't say "Google is your friend!".
