Need printer help

I've been looking for hours and have not found anything that has helped clarify my situation. Or resolve it, either.

I have a DeskJet installed on a Win2k system - works great. Share it with my WinXP Pro system - works great. Trying to get it shared to my Deb 3.5 (someday) system - no workee. I have Samba running on this system, although I'm not sure how much of Samba I need running on my Linux workstation. I have Samba running as a file server (both Windows and Linux see it just fine) on a second box (or, rather, third) with the smb.conf file. I finally got CUPS installed on my Linux box this evening (didn't know it wasn't already there - that took some time) CUPS is up and running, I think. The Control Center instance of printer manager certainly acts like it's hooking up with CUPS. I just can't get the printer/driver to load in the printer manager, or whatever it's called.

I am tired, so I doubt I'll wait up for immediate answers. Not that I don't want them, but I've not slept much in two days and I'm getting carpet burns on my skivvies. So, I'll wake up later or in the morning (hopefully) and see what you "geeks for geeks" have to say about this one.

get printer driver from linuxprinting.org

I'm not sure to see exactly where is your problem, but I would start off by going to linuxprinting.org , and to find either the driver or the definition file (PPD) for your printer in their database
