need help networking fedora with Win XP

ok, I've been trying to figure this out for a bought 2 weeks now and I can't take much more of it so I'm here asking for help. I have a HP omnibook 6000 that I've reformated and put Fedora on it, not too difficult so far, I wan't to get it so I can send / receive files with my desktop witch is a P4 ,dule NIC's , running Win XP, up till now I've been ale to get files to the laptop by running a small server on the desktop and thuse sending files to linux. but I still can't send files to the desktop, my LAN looks like this, I have a Gnet DSL modem/router that connects to an 8 port Netgear switch whitch is where my desktop and laptop are pluged into. Im leaving in a week and I'd like to get all this figured out so I can take my laptop and use a x-over cable to network with a nother laptop running Win XP, any help would be appreseated. thx
