MX Records

Greetings all, I am still on this valiant attempt to set up a Linux DNS server despite having no idea what I am doing.
Here is the next major hurtle.
I have given up on the slave thing, there seems to be no way to make that work (that I can find). So I have decided to go with the master server.
Well, I think I have figured out what Host, Alias, and Name Server mean, but where is the MX Record? And, if there isn’t one then how does mail work?
Do I need to install something else (like the mail server)?
Thanx in advance for the help.

When Some sends a piece of mail their smtp (simple mail transport protocol) server does a lookup for the domain of the recipient to obtain his MX record, which tells the smtp server the location of the recipients preferred smtp server. Once the server knows that it the delivers the piece of mail. So if the domain you are building a name server for has a mail server you NEED an MX record.
