modem connectivity thru USB issue

hi all,,

i have just switched over to a usb connection wid my broadband ADSL modem, because the ethernet has got some problem (either the cable or card)..!!

net connection is working fine in windows after i installed usb drivers..

but, like i expected, its stuck in linux(ubuntu 7.04)..
what can i do to resolve the above issue ??

I can't speak for the other 68, but I viewed it, didn't know the answer but wanted to learn, so I subscribed to the thread! Even threads with fairly easy questions may have 20 or 30 views before there is a response.

hmm..

i also thronged many google pages, but all of them ended with incomplete or confused information..
some said. try dmesg after connecting usb modem
som.. try lsusb
some.. try lshal | more

do the latest kernels come with usb modem -- modules..??
or only ADSL modems are not recognized.. ?

What is the make & model of ur modem and what isp you are connecting to internet. let me know this as i have airtel usb router and have made it work with fedora7, slackware 12, kubuntu 7.04.
