missing port 199 on SNMP

Hi all,

I'm planning to install MRTG on my Slackware.

Here's my problem :
I've just installed net-snmp 5.xx on Slackware 9.1, and follow the Installation Instruction and it's OK. And then i execute /usr/local/snmp/sbin/snmpd to activate the service. And i did :

# netstat -pln |grep snmpd

udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:161 0.0.0.0:* 4037/snmpd

there is no tcp on port 199. Why is that ?
pls advise

NB : my working SNMP on Redhat 9 has 199 and 161 port .

rgds,
assooy

Port 199 is SMUX, which is used for sub-agents. Unless you have a SMUX subagent, you don't need it. If you don't know what SMUX is, you don't need it.

It is a compile time option, so it may not have been turned on for the other agent.
