Question

Hi to all of you, as my profile state, i'm a newbie and like probably all newbie i have a lot of problem to configure my internet connexion. I promise after that i'll never bore you again with newbie question but this time i really need your help.
Here's my problem, i just installed Mandrake 7.2 with all necessary package and configured my adsl connexion, first step my machine (host name and domain name), second my network card a Macronix (module used : tulip.o) and his IP address 10.0.0.10 (subnet mask 255.0.0.0) and for adsl connexion my gateway 10.0.0.138 ... after inetd services was refreshed and even after a fresh reboot i can only ping my own address (10.0.0.10) but i can't ping the gateway 10.0.0.138
So i accept ALL your suggestion or question you have to solve this problem.

Thanks for your help.

## UPDATE 1 ##
I saw on SourceForge website that new tulip driver is available so i'll try but i'm still interested in suggestion from all of you

You have one external dsl modem and one ethernet card? Where did you get the address 10.0.0.138 for the gateway from? Does you external modem support dhcp? How do you get your internet IP?

I need more details.

I have an external dsl modem and it supports dhcp. A simple call to the dhcpcd and my internet interface is setup. Simple... DNS an all.

Supply a little more information, about you installation. Do you see you internet card during startup in 'dmesg'? Can you see the interface if you type 'ifconfig'?

To answer all these questions here's how i should (i'm reffering my windows configuration) connect using my adsl link and my Alcatel 'external' modem :
First i need to setup my ethernet card with 10.0.0.10 address and configure a default gateway to 10.0.0.138 (probably the dhcp server of my ISP) then i use the DarkNet or NetDrak (i don't remember well but it as an option to configure ADSL link under Mandrake distro) and this utility should probably contact the DHCP server to retreive my IP address on the vpn link used to go thru an ADSL connexion.
As i said in my first question i cannot contact the 10.0.0.138 machine that's why i suppose that the problem come from a low level driver code.
