Lubuntu - Belkin Network Card- Installing NdisWrapper? Confused?

Hello,

Disclaimer - First time Linux user here. I have never even seen a machine using Linux until yesterday. So I know nothing at all about how to type commands or delve into it's innards at this stage. I am a complete Novice.

I am however a fast learner and very competent with Windows machines etc.

----

For the first time I decided to use Linux on an old laptop to breath some life back into it.

I chose Lubuntu, which seems to work very nicely. However as expected the Belkin Wireless card does not work.

On investigation it appeared I would need to use NdisWrapper to install the windows driver.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ha...orkCardsBelkin

Based on this page it seems to confirm I do need NdisWrapper.

The card model is F5D7011v2

In downloaded NdisWrapper and clicked install. It then just gives me a word file with a list of things to do. It seems to take me though a lot of commands (none of which I understand at this stage) to type into terminal.

I cannot find any easy instructions for a first time lubuntu user to enable me to use NdisWrapper and install my wireless card.

Any Help?

I recommend you that you install linux Mint that comes with ndiswrapper pre-installed. That will also exclude possibility that your card works with linux drivers.

Hi LinuxSchminux...

Personally, I don't think Ndiswrapper is the best option, especially for someone just starting out in Linux, unless you want an intense crash course in how to use the command line.

An easier option, if you have a available USB port, would be to purchase a Linux compatible adapter like the one here. I purchased this very same adapter and have had very good experiences with it.

However, if you still want to try using the Belkin with Ndiswrapper, you can try the instructions here, which were provided on the page you linked to. They are quite dated, though, so it may not work.

Regards...

I think I replied to a similar thread. It may be that there is native support for your card.

Most times only part of ndiswrapper is in distro's and you have to update to get rest of that.

I'd try for native solution before windows drivers.
