Question Limit bandwith for routers

Hi, I have a linux router that is used for providing DSL to my LAN.

Now I would like to limit the DSL bandwith for some specific IPs in the LAN while others should still keep maximum bandwith.

The hardware is configured with 2 NICs, one for the direct connection to DSL (via PPPoE) and the other one connects to the switch.

I've read already something about traffic shapers but this seems to be a general limiter, but I need something that affects only some IPs.

Big thanks to everyone who would help!!!

Hi..

I was told that we can do the same in iprout2. IN astaro linux it has been implemented. Check the same in astaro.org

With iproute2 it is possible to realise traffic control. However it's quite complicated. You can read more about iproute2 in:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Adv-Routing-HOWTO.html

There is however a script called CBQ which helps to simplify the process. All you have to do then is just create a simple rule set and run the script. You can read more about CBQ here:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Bandwidth-Limiting-HOWTO/

You will still have to have the iproute2 utilities installed to use the cbq script though. The link in the howto to the cbq script seems to be old but you should be able to find it here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cbqinit
