Learning how to calculate a subnet

How do I create 4 subnets from the default 172.16.0.0/16 network (I need to use the entire 172.16.0.0/16 block)? I'm honestly not good at math and this looks very confusing to me. Is there anyone who could just explain this to me step by step? Thanx.

The third digit.

It can go from 0-255.

That represents 256 possible values.

Divide by 4.
