launching the console freezes the KDE panel for a while (due to ADSL connection?)
Launching the console (Konsole) freezes the KDE panel for a moment (~10 seconds), after which the console appears normally and the KDE panel becomes responsive again.
this behaviour started after I got a new ADSL connection, although I can't understand how these two things can relate.
any ideas? what can be the relation between the internet connection and the console? this is weird!! does the console fetch some information from the network (LAN?), like its address?
I noticed a change in my shell prompt:
- with the previous connection (different ADSL), my shell prompt was something like:
[timo@localhost ]
- with the new connection, my shell prompt is:
[timo@ydlxxvi ]
'ydlxxvi' matches my computers hostname, 'ydlxxvi.dsl.saunalahti.fi', shown in KDE Control Center
system:
OS: Mandrake Linux 9.1, KDE 3.1.0, Linux 2.4.21-0.25mdk
ADSL-router: A-link RoadRunner 44B
ADSL provider: Saunalahti (a finnish provider)
