lan file transfers crash my box

Hi,

I am running redhat 7.3 and 9 but i also had this problem when i was all 7.3. the problem is when i transfer large files (few hundred MB) on my lan my 7.3 box hangs (the screen freezes) after a large portion of the file is copied over. this issue has occured with nfs and sftp. side note, i also have the system freeze when i compile something large like kde or the kernel. any ideas on what could be wrong?

Well in both cases the hard disc is being used heavily. Maybe it's defective. Run an fsck on it.
